Overview: |
The Alexander H. Smith Lake States
Mycological Foray (a.k.a. Smith Foray) was first held in September
of 1975 as a means of honoring Dr. A.H. Smith, the world renowned
mycologist at the University of Michigan. The Foray offers a chance
for Lake States mycological colleagues to share field experiences
and a venue for the interaction of those who otherwise might go
years without interacting. It also allows mycological professionals
a way to meet the present group of graduate students and post docs
from Midwestern mycological programs and a chance to exchange ideas
and develop cooperative projects. The camaraderie at the Smith
Foray has an invigorating impact on the mind and spirit of the
mycologist who participate.
